Sunday suppers comfort food

I love staying home on a chilly Sunday, reading books and magazines, sketching, and snuggling on the couch. My most favotite part of Sunday nights (besides desperate housewives and brothers and sisters) is cooking up some kind of delicious comfort food and retreating back to the couch. I have decided that this year I will start posting a couple delicious comfort food recipes every Sunday, some will be new dishes that I have just discovered and others will be tried and tested recipes from my grandmothers vast collection of treats!

I hope everyone will enjoy reading these posts as much as I have enjoyed cooking and eating all of these wonderful Sunday supper dishes.

Baked Penne with roasted vegetables

You will need:

1 red pepper
1 green pepper
2 zucchini
1 yellow onion
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. seasoned pepper
1 tsp. italian seasoning
1 lb. Penne pasta
3 cups of marinara (store bought or homemeade)
1 cup provelone
1 cup mozzarella
1 cup parmesan
2 tbls. butter cut in chunks

Preheat oven to 450

Chop peppers, onion and zucchini in thin strips, toss with olive oil and bake on cookie sheet. Season with salt, pepper, and italian seasoning. Roast 10-15 minutes or until crunchy .

Cook pasta about 6 minutes, it will still be chewy, but will bake in oven again until tender.

In large bowl mix pasta, roasted vegetables, sauce, and cheese together. place in large 9x13 dish, sprinkle with parmesan cheese and bake for 25 minutes.

Funny blonde joke!

Ok, because I am blonde and went to interior design school I had to share this adorable blonde joke!

A Blonde enters a store that sells curtains.

She tells the salesman, "I would like to buy a pair of pink curtains." The salesman assures her that they have a large selection of pink curtains. He shows her several patterns, but the blonde seems to be having a hard time choosing.

Finally she selects a lovely pink floral print. The salesman then asks what size curtains she needs. The blonde promptly replies, "fifteen inches"

"Fifteen inches???" asked the salesman. "That sounds very small, what room are they for?"

The blonde tells him that they aren't for a room, they are for her computer monitor.

The surprised salesman replies, "But Miss, computers do not need curtains!"

The blonde says, "Hellllooooooooo ... I've got Windoooooows!"

Wreath ribbons and bows instructions

I love bows and I love christmas wreaths they are so classic and perfect decor for the holidays! I found a really easy tutorial for making large bows for a wreath, so I thought I would share!

What You Need:
•4 to 5 yards of 2-1/2- to 3-inch-wide ribbon
•12-inch ruler
•Pipe cleaners
•Wire or hot-glue gun and hot-glue sticks, if desired

Instructions:
1. Measure ribbon. Starting with all of the ribbon yardage, measure 15 inches from one end. Twist and pinch ribbon there. If ribbon has a right and wrong side, keep the right side out after each twist. Lay the ribbon by the ruler, with the twist centered at the 6-inch mark.

Photo 1: Secure loops with
a pipe cleaner. 2. Make a 6-inch loop, using the long length of ribbon. Bring the loop back to the center, and twist and pinch the ribbon again.

3. Make another 6-inch loop on the opposite side, again using the long length, and bring the ribbon back to the center, twisting and pinching again.

Photo 2: Tie an extra loop
of ribbon over center to
finish. 4. Make 8 or 10 loops, alternating sides, until bow has desired fullness.

5. Add pipe cleaner. Secure the bow loops by twisting a pipe cleaner around the center of the bow. (See Photo 1.) The ends of the pipe cleaner should be toward the back of your bow.

6. Trim as desired. Tie an extra length of ribbon around the center of the bow (see Photo 2) and trim the ribbon ends. Attach desired trims using wire or hot glue.

Young alumni of the year 2009

I was so excited to learn the news that I had been selected for the young alumni of the year at Harcum College. They planted a tree in my honor and placed a plaque on alumni row with my name on it. I graduated from Harcum in 2002 with a degree in interior design and I enjoyed every minute of it. Harcum is nestled in the middle of Bryn Mawr, with tree lined streets, old stone colonials, and convey's the feeling you get from of a Norman Rockwell painting.

I have been adding and deleting things that I like or don't like, so don't be surprised if you see several different images up there until I decide on exactly what I like best. If any of you have any ideas or want to share some fun banner images that you have seen please feel free to share! Also, if anyone of you would like a new look to your blog banner I am offering new custom designs for $15, email me if you are interested!
